Dear CBVA family,

With COVID-19 cases on the rise in Calgary since Alberta’s June 12 stage 2 reopening, we have come to the decision that we cannot take the risk of opening our courts this summer for leagues or tournaments.

The health and safety of CBVA participants, volunteers, and their loved ones remains of primary importance, and was the main driving factor behind making this difficult decision.

We will be refunding all current registrations in full over the next few weeks. We look forward to running our leagues and tournaments again next spring, and hope to get back on track then.

In the meantime, please be safe and follow recommended guidelines to stop the spread of COVID-19.

CBVA Executive Team

Hello CBVA family,

After speaking with the City of Calgary and our insurance company, CBVA has been left to identify high-risk activities and implement procedures to keep players as safe as possible. CBVA is struggling with ways to open the site in compliance with city/provincial guidelines.

Some issues we’ve examined are sanitization of balls, portable toilets (biggest points of contact for COVID-19 spread), nets, lines, bags, speakers, hoses, shed, etc., as well as setup, takedown and score-keeping methods.

There is currently no vaccine or foolproof treatment, and we do not feel it’s possible to mitigate the above-noted issues. We will examine the situation again in mid July and update you then. If we cannot open safely by early August, we will refund all registrations and try again next spring.

Hello CBVA family,

As Calgary moves into Stage 2 of Alberta’s COVID Relaunch Plan, CBVA is reviewing the current guidelines and working with The City of Calgary to come up with ways to get our feet back in the sand as soon as possible.

As it stands, contact sports are now allowed in groups of 50 or less with certain safety restrictions. We are investigating how this affects our rentals, youth camps, leagues, tournaments and Friday drop-in, and are currently working to implement a strategy that will enable us to get playing, as well as keep our players safe. Our projected start date may be as early as June 28. Once we finalize our safety management plan, we will update you via email and post on our website.

We are looking for two Site Managers to take care of nightly operations during leagues and possibly drop-in to ensure we are abiding by COVID-19 requirements. Job details can be found at: Site Manager Job Posting

CBVA Executive Team

Hello CBVA family,

We hope you and your loved ones are all safe and healthy.

The City of Calgary Parks & Recreation recently cancelled all recreational programs up to June 30, 2020. As such, we will let you know which of the scenarios below CBVA will proceed with based on upcoming COVID-19 guidelines:

Scenario 1: If we get the go ahead to start our season as of July 1, CBVA will transfer Session 1 registrations to Session 2.

Scenario 2: If we lose a portion of Session 2, CBVA will refund registered teams a pro-rated amount based on how many weeks are available to play.

Scenario 3: If the entire 2020 season is lost, CBVA will refund registered teams in full.

The above scenarios will allow CBVA to become operational on short notice. However, should you prefer a refund now, please email with all your registration details. Please note we are not taking any tournament registrations at this time.

Please continue practising hand washing, isolation and physical distancing so we can flatten this superbug!

CBVA Executive Team

Dear players and volunteers,

In light of the current situation surrounding the progression of COVID-19, we wanted to reach out to you directly to let you know we have been monitoring the situation and what impact it may have on our upcoming leagues. As the health and wellbeing of our valued players and volunteers is our top priority, CBVA will follow recommendations set forth by Health Canada and the World Health Organization.

As the best method to avoid spread of the virus is social distancing, at this time we are postponing all work bees scheduled for early April.

Another email will be sent in mid-April as the situation evolves. We may move Session 1 registrations to Session 2 or incorporate one longer “super-session” based on how things progress. If the entire season is lost, rest assured all registrations will be refunded in full. We will be adding a link on our homepage with these updates so you can check back any time.

In the meantime, please practise social distancing, stringent hand hygiene and self-quarantine if you’ve recently travelled or have symptoms. We want you and your family to remain healthy!
